Falls Creek: Bogong High Plains Road, Falls Creek, Australia
The Alpine Challenge is without doubt Australia's toughest mountain trail ultra offering a range of distances from 10/16/25/42/60/100/160km. Set in the Alpine National Park in N.E. Victoria and starting and finishing at Falls Creek Alpine Village the course offers runners the options of 7 courses and the ability to run as a; solo runner, in an endurance team or as part of a relay team.
The Alpine Challenge covers Victoria's highest peaks including Mount Bogong, Mount Feathertop, Spione Kopje, Mount Hotham and Mt McKay. 7,000m in 160km. It has a DNF rate of 36% and shouldn't be underestimated (NB in 2017 and 2019 due to weather conditions the DNF rate spiked over 50%), in 2018 with an altered course due to an Antartcic blast and snow falls we did not record the DNF rate - it was so high!
You don't have to do it all in your first year, try one of the easier options and come back the next year and step up to a longer distance, you will love it and want to come back.
